These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of BriefGov.us (the "Site"). By using the Site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.
BriefGov.us is a reference site about the government of the United States. Entries are written for general educational and informational purposes only. Nothing on the Site is legal, medical, financial, or professional advice, and nothing on the Site should be treated as a substitute for the official text of laws, regulations, and court decisions or for advice from a qualified professional. BriefGov.us is not a government website and is not affiliated with any government agency.
We try to be accurate, fair, and well-sourced, and we update entries when we find errors or when laws, rulings, and agencies change. That said, no encyclopedia-style reference is perfect. The Site is provided on an "as is" basis. We make no warranty — express or implied — that the content is complete, current, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. Government changes quickly, and information may be out of date; each entry shows when its facts were last checked. Where a policy is contested, we describe the main arguments on each side; we do not take sides.
If you spot an error, please tell us. We read every message.
The text of BriefGov.us entries, the visual design, the logos ("BriefGov.us" and the dome-and-compass mark), and the organization of the Site are owned by BriefGov.us and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. You may quote brief passages for the purpose of commentary, scholarship, criticism, teaching, or research, consistent with fair use, with attribution to BriefGov.us. Wholesale copying, scraping, mirroring, or republication of the Site or substantial portions of it is not permitted without our written permission.
Illustrations made specifically for BriefGov.us are owned by us. Texts of federal laws, court opinions, and other works of the U.S. government are generally in the public domain. Other quotations are used under fair use, and agency names and seals belong to their respective agencies.
The content of BriefGov.us may not be used to train commercial machine-learning models without our written permission. Personal, academic, and noncommercial study use is fine.
You agree not to:
